John Le Carre. The Honourable Schoolboy; Smiley's People. Hodder and Stoughton 1977-1979, London, 1977.

Price: US$318.01 + shipping

Description: First editions of The Honourable Schoolboy and Smiley's People by John le Carré The final two novels in John le Carré's Karla trilogy; The Honourable Schoolboy, and Smiley's People. First editions, found in their original dust wrappers. Better known by his pen name John le Carré, the late David John Moore Cornwall is known for his espionage novels, several of which were successfully adapted for film. Having worked for both MI5 and MI6 in the 1950s and 1960s, Cornwall then became a full time writer following the international success of his third novel. As well as portraying British intelligence agents as political functionaries, le Carré also dwells on the moral ambiguity of spy work as his characters become entangled in Cold War espionage. These two novels follow George Smiley as he endeavours to root out a mole and entrap his Soviet counterpart, Karla. In the publisher's original cloth binding, found in the unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart, with some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine of The Honourable Schoolboy. There are six pieces of masking tape to the folds at the reverse of the wrap of The Honourable Schoolboy to prevent wear and tear, and a very small tear in the wrap at the front joint. Internally, firmly bound. The endpapers are a little grubby but pages are otherwise bright and clean throughout. Very Good Indeed
