Description: Hardcover. 7 1/2" X 6 1/4". 111pp, plus one page ads. Pictorial cloth over boards. Heavy wear to binding, with thorough scattered rubbing, bumping, soiling, dampstains, and edgewear. Hinges repaired with cloth. Binding remains sound. Smudges, faint dampstains, and mild soiling to pages throughout, with occasional pencil marks, with frequent small tears to margins, but no losses. A worn but complete copy of this 1901 Holton Primer, illustrated throughout in black and white and color.

Description: Tan cloth; red and black cover illustration by Ralph Fletcher Seymour; reinforced cloth hinges. First in a series of literature textbooks, by grades, "this book is designed as a reader for the Little Men and Little Women in the primary grade who take up so bravely the task of learning to read." Three pages of "Suggestions to Teachers" indicates that this was a teacher's copy. Illustrated endpapers by Seymour. Half-tone and color illustrations throughout, including "Grandma's School Days" (half-tone reproduction) by Kate Greenaway. One of the many "memory gems" scattered throughout the text is "Where do the Chickens go at night?" by L. Frank Baum. Also included are a simplified "Chicken Little" and excerpts from "Hiawatha." Moderate rubbing to cover extremities. Spine lettering almost completely rubbed away. Light-to-moderate soil to cover cloth. Light, incomplete school inkstamp inside front cover. Light puckering and thumbing wear to text pages, with intermittent faint soil. Binding tight.
