Description: 211 pages, 50 fine steel engraved plates, including frontispiece and engraved title vignette, a good plus hardback, publisher's original blind stamped blue cloth binding with gilt lettering to the spine and front cover. Both also have buildings drawn in gilt. All page edges are gold gilt & the book is well bound and square. Internally the book is extremely clean - there's a former owner's name on the ffep with an 1854 date. We downgraded from VG due to the extremities being rubbed and the spine a little faded. The top of the back hinge has also developed a small split in the cloth.

Narrow small quarto blue blindstamped and pictorially gilt cloth with spine extra gilt (1cm split to hinges at head and foot hinges) All Edges Gilt. Frontis +Engraved pictorial title + Printed title +Contents + 211pp. Lacks front free endpaper & has ownership stamp of St. Augustine's monastery to titlepage (slight offsetting to blank page facing) & to verso of final page which is blank except for stamp. Book plate of the Monastery to pastedown. Some pale foxing, mainly marginal else a bright tight crisp copy with very fine steel engravings. 1 volume.

P. Lascaridi, b. 1820 Prusa/Brusa, Asia Minor, d. 5 September, 1889 in Corfu, Greece/Hellenes, a merchant in London, insurance and discount agent, dealer and chapman. Brief genealogical statement laid in. Some of the steel engravings by Hablot Browne [pseud. Phiz] (1815-1882), For much of his life he signed his work Phiz, but on occasion in prints, and often in other media, he identified himself by his real initials or name, as he does in this book. Others, unsigned, still have very recognizable Dickens-like characters in the foreground. Some foxing, most engravings untouched. Rubbing to board at extremities. Very good.

Marshall, J. Meadows etc. Original pale green gilt pictorial textured and patterned cloth, gilt decorated spine. All edges gilt. On the front pastedown is the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst, pharmacist and book collector. Some light foxing to prelims. Inner hinges cracking. Spine a little bruised at head and a little rubbed at tail. Corners just a little bumped.
