Description: Originally published in 1889 as volume 26 of the works of Hubert Howe Bancroft, this edition, published in 1890, was intended to be a separate printing and is not identified as part of the series. In many ways this is the more desireable copy since it contains six colored engravings not found in the series edition. This edition also has the added engraved title-page in color. 1 p.l, xlvii, 808 pp. plates (7 colored incl. title-page) portraits, maps. According to Flake 287, some copies of this printing had neither the colored title-page of the other colored plates. This is a nice copy overall. The front hinge is starting and there is some spotting of the covers (mostly along the bottom) but overall easily an above average copy. Decorative covers with gilt decorations. The wear to the edges, tips of spine and corners is minimal. All in all a very collectible copy. See Flake 287, Howes B-91, Graff 155, Scallawagiana 77.

Most volumes are in very good or good condition. The leather spines and boards are rubbed and chipped.
