Description: 8vo.; in quarter contrasting papers, plain and patterned with titling in gilt to the upper board; 38 pages followed by the colophon; printed on Arches laid paper in black and red with wood engraved frontispiece, borders and initials designed by Lucien Pissaro and engraved by him and Esther Pissaro; one of 230 copies of which 200 were for sale.~~There is a small chip to the paper at the edge of the spine near the front gutter; endpapers have darkened from the binder's glue.~~Overall, a nice copy of this lovely Eragny Press production.~. Description: London, Printed at the Eragny Press for Hacon & Ricketts, 1902 [first thus]. Octavo, 40 pages printed in red and black on Arches handmade paper, with a wood-engraved vignette (for the Mother Goose stories), title vignette, borders, initials and printer's device plus 2 wood-engraved illustrations. Original quarter contrasting plain and patterned papered boards, lettered in gilt; edges uncut and partially unopened; covers lightly sunned and rubbed, with brown marks to the rear cover (apparently from prolonged contact with another book); endpapers browned; a very good copy (internally in fine condition). One of only 230 copies (of which 200 were offered for sale), printed at the Eragny Press of Lucien and Esther Pissarro. The title vignette and two illustrations were drawn and engraved by T. Sturge Moore; the frontispiece, borders and initials were designed by Lucien and engraved by him and Esther. This is the fourteenth book of the press.

Description: A very scarce edition of this popular tale, limited to two hundred and thirty copies and illustrated by T. Sturge Moore. A limited edition copy of two hundred and thirty printings of this work. A very scarce volume. Comprising a popular tale, the most famous version by Charles Perrault, Histoire de Peau d'Ane(Donkey Skin), originally published in 1694. According to Ruth B. Bottigheimer, this would be the first written French fairy tale, classing among folktales of Aarne-Thompson.An Eragny press edition. This publisher, active between 1896 and 1914, specialised in small handmade books in limited prints with stunning wood engravings. It produced a total of thirty two titles. Founded by Lucien Pissarro, the publications were inspired by the works of the Kelmscott Press. Pissarro was a great printmaker and wood engraver himself, he worked in France for about thirty years before he moved to Britain.With three engravings by T. Surge Moore and frontispiece by L. Pissarro. in the original publisher's paper covered boards, with title stamped in gilt to front board and spine. Externally sound with slight shelfwear and rubbing to head and tail of spine. Slight handling marks to boards. William S. Argent's bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Small bookworm mark affecting pastedown to sixteen, not affecting contents or text. Illustrated with frontispiece three engravings by T. Sturge Moore. Very Good
