P G Wodehouse. Heavy Weather. Herbert Jenkins, 1933.

Price: US$2000.00 + shipping

Condition: Fine

Description: A fine copy in fine second issue wrapper. The wrapper is original to the book. Herbert Jenkins practise was to issue the first at 7/6 or 3/6 and then 12-18 months later all unsold firsts were married to a popular wrapper and sold at 2/6 ,so where Mcilvaine states a print run of 10,000 for the first perhaps as few as 25% had a first wrapper ,the balance going out with the popular one. The bibliography states cheap edition but I have never seen one and it is a term the British Library used for popular or second editions In the 20's and 30's 7/6 was a lot of money and many Wodehouse readers waited for the popular edition .Collectors did not really discover him until the 60/70's, when modern firsts started to gain value Firsts are now becoming out of reach for many collectors so there is now a secondary market developing. A lovely copy Language: eng

Description: The sequel to 'Summer Lightning'. Original blue cloth with orange lettering and decoration to spine. The pages are clean with no inscriptions, the first half title is faded slighly and there is light spotting to the page edges, but the book comfortably classes as very good; in an excellent, near fine dustwrapper, which is crisp and bright (and with the correct first issue price of 7'6) and which has had some small areas of discreet, professional restoration to the top edges. Not an easy title to source, especially in such lovely condition as this. McIlvaine A50b.
