Top corners bumped (back cover rather light, front cover a moderate bump with top corner effects within through first third of the book). Corners also rubbed through + wear/fraying at the spine-ends & titling a bit faded. Covers on the clean side except ofc small red pencil doodle. No previous owner names but ffep small red pencil doodle + front pastedown (ifc) 2-inch black accidental pen streak & each rear endpaper a small brown spot. Half-title, title page, & interior pages very clean, printed one-color black throughout. Each right-hand page numerous vignette drawings reproduced & about every-other left-hand page a very short cutline caption. Hurter's job at Disney was character design and this reproduces scads of his sketchbook pages with anywhere from one to 20 pencil images per page. Everything from concepts for Snow White to Three Little Pigs to what has been described as the prototype for Mr. Natural, plus some of the most surreal images you've yet to imagine. A legend. He entered the animated cartoon field first through the studio of Raoul Barre and later, in 1932, he joined the Walt Disney Studio. There, until his death nine years later, he gave the riches of his talent to one of the most spectacular of modern art forms. In this book, arranged and captioned by Ted Sears, a friend and associate of Hurter's at the Walt Disney Studio, are displyed 700 efforts of the artist's most productive years. The dust jacket is chipped and now in mylar; otherwise, this copy is clean and solid.

In 1930, at the age of 48 he applied for an animation job at the Disney Studios in California. His sketches were the foundations for most of the Disney films of the Thirties, designing characters and settings for Silly Symphonies, Snow White and Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Reluctant Dragon and even films made long after his death.
