The second instalment in the author's famous Harry Potter Series. - The book itself is in very good condition. Externally, it has a 8mm long, 2mm wide diagonal abrasion to the laminate on top left of the front board, which presents as a white mark underneath.The front board also has a couple of indentations that have not pierced the laminate to the top, and the outside corners are slightly pushed. The reverse board is very good, but for a couple of small pushes to the outside corners. The spine is also very good with slight pushes to the top an bottom. The page block is slightly tanned. Internally, the book is in lovely condition with no inscriptions or tears- a nice copy. - The dust jacket is also in very good condition, and is in the correct first state with a price of £10.99 present. Some slight fading to the spine cover and very light ruffling to the bottom, but otherwise a nice copy.

He recalls the circumstances: “It is a primary school teacher named Mrs Pope that is to be thanked for it coming into my possession. She had started reading JK Rowling’s first book (Philosopher’s Stone) to my class just before all the hype started. Before Chamber of Secrets was released JK Rowling held a competition where she had her fans write letters about how much they enjoyed the first book. Her favourite letters would be hand picked and be published in the “Chamber of Secrets”. Everyone in my class entered the competition (along with thousands of other Children). I didn’t win, but a girl in my class named Fiona Chadwick did. You can see her letter reproduced in the back of Chamber. As a result of our classmate winning, my entire class were invited to her book launch at Waterstones in Aberdeen. JK Rowling read us the first 2 chapters of the book. It was magical hearing her give life to her words. I particularly remember her impersonating Dobby. She signed each of my classmates books and left a personal message in the cover of each one. Description: Joanne Kathleen Rowling (1998) ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets‘, UK uncorrected proof dust jacket, published by Bloomsbury. Housed and beautifully presented in a bespoke blue buckram folder with the item’s description embossed in gold on the front as shown in our images. Condition: near fine. Original and completely unrestored. No tears, no chips. Only creases roughly along the folds. Clean throughout with no ink smudges as sometimes seen. Rowling bibliographer Philip Errington, after researching the Bloomsbury archives, suggests that between 200 and 300 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets uncorrected proof copies have been printed. Of those, very few had a proof dust jacket. Most copies that have sold via reputable auction houses such as Sothebys, Christies or Bonham’s are never supplied with the scarce proof dust jacket. The proof dust jacket is different from the wrapper which was later used in the first edition. The printed price is £9.99 rather than £10.99; there is no reference to the Ted Smart Prize and Carnegie Award on the front; and there is a printers edge on the front flap. First and Fine
