Ex-lib., with usual stamps and labels, envelope on verso of rear board; 60 p., otherwise unmarked but with a few faint smudges on corners of first few pages--but then former owner must have been taught hand-washing; paper strong and only faintly age-toned; binding firm but front gutter cracked; pictorial boards, with black lettering on orange portion near top edge of front board and beige portion near lower edge, are rubbed at corners and abraded at corwn and foot of spine.

Description: 59 S., unpag., mit zahlreichen s/w- und Farbabbildungen. Sehr seltene Erstausgabe. Die Geschichte erzählt von dem kleinen Jungen Hansi aus Innsbruck, der das Weihnachtsfest bei Verwandten in Tirol verbringt. Der Autor wurde 1898 in Meran geboren. Vor ihm lag ein abenteuerreiches Leben. Nach Eskapaden in Kindheit und Jugend wurde er als 16-jähriger Junge zu seinem in den USA lebenden Vater geschickt. Hier arbeitete er zunächst in verschiedenen Hotels und Restaurants. Die Geschichte vom kleinen Hansi ist sein Erstlingswerk als Schriftsteller und Illustrator. Es hat starke autobiographische Bezüge. Insgesamt veröffentlichte Bemelmans etwa 50 Titel. Er starb 1962 in New York und ist auf dem Militärfriedhof von Arlington/Virginia begraben. Der Einband ist bestoßen und vor allem an den unteren Kanten stark berieben. Der vordere Buchdeckel weist zudem einen islierten Fleck auf (siehe Foto). Eigentumsvermerk von Kinderhand auf dem Vorsatz. Hier auch Nachweis einiger Flecke. Innen sehr gut erhalten. Lediglich ein kleiner Einriss am unteren Rand der Seite 31. Description: Very First Book by the author/illustrator who would become much better known for his popular "Madeline" series about the "12 little girls in 2 straight lines" living with the nuns in Paris. Hansi features a schoolboy in Tyrol, Austria-Hungary, where the author himself was born, with illustrations in both pencil/pen and ink & full color by the author throughout the unpaginated text. Orig. published in 1934, this is the Third Printing from Aug. 1942. Oversized hardcover is in only Good condition: with pictorial boards & a 1/16th blue cloth-wrapped spine, there is heavy rubbing to all extremities & fraying at both ends of spine. Light soil & scuffing. Former child owner had written his name on back cover & inside front & back cover, no other writing, but there is crayon coloring on 1 page. Description: Blue cloth and pictorial boards. There is some wear along the upper and lower board edges. The lower corners are bumped. A small bookseller's label to the lower, front pastedown. It is otherwise very clean and tight. The dust jacket is largely complete but poor. It is completely separated at the spine edge and held by several small pieces of old tape to the verso. Another large split to the front flap fold although this is holding. Much chipping to the upper and lower edges. There is staining along the rear panel at the fore edge and along the lower edge. This staining largely invisible to the exterior but can be seen to the verso. Original price of $2.00 to the front flap. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall

Light creases along top edges of front and back panels. Reader's crease along spine. Otherwise very good and in mylar jacket.
