Description: True first British printing. No jacket as issued. With numerous illustrations by H. J. Ford. All illustrations are present and in good condition (bit of foxing/browning/few marks). Includes original tissue guarded frontispiece. Page 159/160 is a little loose to lower third. Grey boards with (faded) gold lettering and design to spine and gold lettering and design to front are only good with numerous marks, pushing/bumping to corners, patchy browning (including to spine), a few small rubs/bumps to edges, a little patchy fading and a little wear (pushing/rubbing/bumping/small splits to the cloth) to head/tail of spine. Little spine lean. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight (pulled in places with webbing showing - however book is not in danger of falling apart). All edges gilt (bit rubbed/scratched/bumped with the odd small mark). Small creases to a few pages. Pages tanned. Previous owner's name, date and location in pen to front end-paper. Previous owner's name, date and location in pencil to front blank page. Numerous marks/scattered foxing to pages. First and last few pages tanned. No other faults. Description: A very good copy of the 1st edition in the original grey decorative cloth binding with gilt titles to spine and gilt to front board depicting a fairy riding on the back of an owl beneath the moon and a star. Numerous black and white illustrations by H J Ford, all present and in excellent condition. All page edges gilt. The spine is slightly faded and has a few marks, slight wear to tail of spines, corners very lightly bumped. The rear board has a faint stain. Internally there is a previous owners signature to half title page, contents lightly foxed. 387 Pages.
