Ruth Plumly Thompson. Grampa in Oz. The Reilly & Lee Co., (1924), Chicago:, 1924.

Price: US$85.00 + shipping

Description: First Printing Very good in its original brick red cloth covered boards with black text on the spine and with a printed, color paper label on the front board. An octavo of 9 by 6 5/8 inches with a mild crease to the cloth down the center of the spine and with very light wear and rubbing to the cloth at the head and heel of the spine and over the tips of the boards. Insect predation has occurred in the margins of 187/188; 189 through 202 and to the ads at the rear of the book (see below). The front hinge is beginning to loosen, the rear hinge is tight as are both joints. The "This book belongs to" page is free of any names or dates. As pointed out by Paul R. Bienvenue in his wonderful bibliography: The Book Collector's Guide to L. Frank Baum & Oz, this is the only title in the Oz series which does not have a frontispiece plate. 271 pages of text followed by a list of The Famous Oz Books which is followed by three pages of ads from the publisher. Oddly, a book worm has managed to worm his way through these advertising pages as well as small bit of nibbling of the rear end sheet all without damage to the any text. Illustrated with 12 color plates and numerous black and white vignettes throughout the text all by John R. Neill. The page number 171 is in perfect type confirming that this is one of the first printings of this title. Subsequent printings had damaged type. (Bienvenue, p.105)
