He is considered one of the most influential American poet of his time. Ashbery published more than twenty volumes of poetry and won nearly every major American award for poetry, including a Pulitzer Prize in 1976 for his collection Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror. Renowned for his postmodern complexity and opacity, his works still proves controversial. Ashbery said he wished his work to be accessible to has many people as possible, not a private dialogue with himself. Ashbery studied and received degrees from Harvard University and Columbia University. Alex Katz (born 1927) is an American figurative artist known for his paintings, sculptures, and prints. Since 1951, Katz's work has been the subject of more than 200 solo exhibitions and nearly 500 group exhibitions through the United States and internationally. He is well known for his large paintings, whose bold simplicity and heightened colors are considered as precursors to Pop Art. Katz's paintings are divided almost equally into the genres of portraiture and landscape. After 1964, he increasingly portrayed groups of figures. Incredibly scarce work signed by both author and artist in good condition. Gift quality & presents very well.
