Notable foxing and tanning to endpapers and page edges. Previous owner's name to front endpaper. Some gutter cracking. Pages are rough cut. Mild wear to spine, cover edges and corners, with small stains, marking and soiling across the covers. Minor sunning to spine and board edges.

Some natural discolouration to vellum, browning to front paste-down from loose newspaper cuttings, otherwise a very good copy in original card slipcase (this a little worn) Four stories, comprising "The Epic of the Heavenly Cook,"The Crime of Olga Jibinsky,"The Elevation of Lulu," and "The Shoelace." J. M. Barrie described Merrick as a "novelist's novelist.", whilst George Orwell called him "a good bad writer".
