Pound, Ezra (trans.). Forked Branches: Translations of Medieval Poems. Together with seven original wood blocks. Windhover Press, Iowa City, IA, 1985.

Price: US$1380.00 + shipping

Description: Octavo. xvi, 85, (2)pp. One of 200 copies. This with a separate print of the frontispiece, and a photograph of the original of the same. The photograph indicates the original artist (who remains unnamed in the present edition) as Dorothy Shakespear, beleagured wife of Pound and daughter of novelist Olivia Shakespear. The updated 1985 woodcut has been printed in seven colors using seven separate blocks, which accompany this copy. The blocks are numbered along their sides and retain the traces of their respective colors, so that the current reader can recreate the series in which they were used. A delightful insight into the book's creation, albeit not obviously in keeping with this selection of Pound's translations of medieval poems, which have been compiled for the edition by Charlotte Ward and introduced by James Laughlin. Bound by William Anthony in gray cloth-backed boards with pastepaper covers. Minor rubs to corners, else fine.
