Price: US$1000.00 + shipping

Condition: Fine

Description: First American edition. Fine in fine dustwrapper with a tiny rubbed spot on the front panel near the flap fold. The eighth Bond book, containing five separate stories of 007: the title story, "From a View To a Kill," "Quantum of Solace," "Risico," and "The Hildebrand Rarity." The first three stories have lent their names to James Bond films and, in the case of the book's title, a hit song as well. A superior, fresh and crisp copy, and seldom found thus.

(underlined). A fine copy in a very good jacket with a few chips and tears. Inscribed copies of American editions are notably scarce. The recipient is Marion 'Oatsie' Leiter, a close friend of the author whose name Fleming had appropriated for James Bond's trusted ally Felix Leiter of the CIA and Pinkerton's Detective Agency. Marion Leiter had recommended the James Bond novels to her friend Senator John F. Kennedy while recovering from an operation, and she subsequently hosted a dinner so both men could meet. The two became friends and, in a literary article in Life Magazine, President Kennedy cited 'From Russia With Love' as one of his favourite reads giving Fleming significant exposure in America. The wedding reception of their mutual friend Ivar [Felix] Bryce was held at Marion Leiter's home in Aiken, South Carolina. Gilbert A8b (1).
