Price: US$1921.30 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: First impression of the true first edition. Illustrated with eight monochrome photographic plates - from photographs by the author, with marginal line-drawn illustrations in blue to every page. All plates present, as called for. ***With an interesting contemporary lettercard which has been pasted to the front pastedown, and which is SIGNED by H. G. Wells. ***Very good in blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine, and gilt tiles plus an inset paper colour illustration and blind borders to the front board. The boards are undamaged, with just light rubbing and marks commensurate with age and handling. No tears to the fragile cloth of the spine and corners sharp. No bumping or creasing. The binding is secure and tight with no loose pages. Internally, there are some handling marks and light creasing to the pages [a common occurrence for books designed for children] but no significant creases or tears. There is some light sporadic foxing to the preliminary pages. ***With a lettercard pasted to the front pastedown with the author's printed Telephone and Address details, and a handwritten message with the author's signature at the bottom. The handwriting is a little difficult to decipher, but reads roughly as "My many thanks for your jolly suggestions. The ? will go into a future galley (i.e. proof) by various hands that ? ? have at little Easter." (please see scans) With offsetting to the front free endpaper caused by the card. No other ownership inscriptions, but of additional interest, there are a couple of hand drawn cards pasted to the rear endpaper and pastedown, one of which shows drawings of ships. The contents are remarkably well preserved. Without the rare dustwrapper. ***218mm x 180mm. 71 pages with 8 photographic plates. ***First impression of the true first edition, with a very interesting author SIGNED lettercard pasted to the front pastedown. "Floor Games" is in itself a scarce H. G. Wells publication. By it's nature, designed for children's use, very few copies have survived in any shape, let alone in complete collectable condition. With the addition of the SIGNED lettercard, this makes the book a truly unique example. A collector's copy. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
