Description: First edition first printing The front board is clean and straight. There are minor rubs to the bottom edge. The spine is slightly grubby but straight. The rear board is clean and straight. The front inside board is clean and bright. The front end paper is missing. The internal pages are all clean and bright and the binding tight. There is very minor foxing to the text block. The rear end paper is clean and bright. The rear inside board is clean but there is a small tape mark to the middle top. Dust wrapper/ There is loss to the top of the back cover, spine and the front cover. This has been repaired from the back with white paper.The bottom of the spine has loss too and the bottom of the front cover has a 2cmx 2cm chip with a 3cm closed tear attached. There are tiny chips to the bottom of the back cover. This too has been repaired from the back with white paper. The front cover front flap hinge has a tear 7cm. Not price cut. The rear of the front flap has a name inscribed.

The front inside board has an inscription. The end papers and rear inside board are clean and bright. Th text block is foxed but this has not spread to the internal pages, which are all clean and bright. The binding is tight. Dust wrapper/ The front cover has a closed tear to the top edge 2cm. The top edge is rubbed. the four corners have chips. The bottom left hand chip has a 3cm closed tear attached. The top of the spine has loss 2cm deep, affecting the Five in the title. The bottom of the spine has some loss 1/2 cm deep not affecting the publisher stamp. The back cover has chips to all four corners and there is a closed tear 1cm to the top edge, that has been taped on the reverse. The front flap top edge is curled with a 1/2 cm closed tear. The front and rear flap hinges are rubbed. Not price cut. The reverse of the wrapper is clean and complete.

Just the merest hint of spine fade (hardly worth mentioning) and a tiny bump at the base of the spine. Boards bright and clean. Clean interior. A VG+ copy. The dustwrapper is priced 6/- net to the inside flap (as called for) and is VG indeed with a couple of tiny, closed tears (and associated faint creases) to the top edge and a pale brown small stain at the head of the spine (above the lettering). Signed by Enid Blyton to half-title in black fountain pen: Cherry/ love from/ Enid Blyton". Early signed "Fives" (signed directly to the book as opposed to on a book-plate) are very scarce these days. Photographs/scans available upon request.
