Description: 120 pages (complete). Folio size. Unnumbered copy of a limited edition of 2000 copies. Printed on Gelderland mill paper. From the library of Birch Bernstein (South African mining executive, financier and book-collector), his ex-libris plate is on the front pastedown. A comforting copy. Half cloth with marble boards. The dustjacket has a clear cellophane protective wrap. The dj is much worn, torn, yellowed, scuffed and marked by stacking and shelving and hand. It is comfortable and sure. The cloth covered corners have wear and scuffing. The spine also has light wear. The boards are benign and healthy and sound. Within, the frontispage has a user crease. The end papers have light handling marks. Otherwise, the contents are most gratifying. The coloured illustrations are vivid, vibrant, vivacious, bright. The b/w illustrations are bold and fresh. Wolf &J Smith Del et lith, M.&.N.Hanhart, imp.) plus a four-page pamphlet explaining the intended editions, and a detailed description of the intended contents including a list of the 15 color plates and 23 black and white prints expected to be in the edition. A beautiful example of what a prospectus can be, oddly well preserved after nearly 75 years.
