Other stories include 'Killings', a swift and wholly successful tale of revenge, 'Townies', about a young man and his affair with a student, 'The Pitcher', about a baseball player who can manage is arm but not his wife, and the 'Winter Father' a story of overwhelming tenderness. Subtle and haunting, Dubus evokes memories of Chekhov, but remains wholly American in his tendencies and concentrations.
