Description: xvi, 335 p. 22 cm. 12 fold-out plates at rear. Original publisher's binding. Front board detached and front free endpaper nearly so. Plates and rear board also nearly detached. Spine deteriorated with chipped head and numerous cracks. Ink note and soiling to boards. Worn edges. Ink signature on front pastedown. Some foxing to first pages. Overall, a complete and neat text block in need of rebinding. Torrens was Adjutant-General to the Forces.

Description: Octavo in original paper-covered boards, rebacked in 1911. 12 fold-out plates depicting troop marching maneuvers. This copy contains an engaging note on the 1st free endpaper by a later owner who descended from the original owner describing the book's history. It also contains an envelope loosely inserted containing fragments of notes & diagrams from the original owner (ca. 1825). Condition: corners lightly bumped; minor wear to boards; ex-library copy (from the Warner Bros. research dept.); also has the descendant's armorial bookplate on 1st pastedown; minor wear to fold-out plates; else very good. Pages: xvi, 336, 12 plates, and 4-page publisher's list.

Description: Octavo. Revised by the present author upon King's orders. xvi, 335pp., including index, (12) folding plates. The King had decided since it had been over 33 years, it was time to update General Sir David Dundas' System of Tactics as it was due for improvements. It was a time of peace and therefore, it was deemed necessary to take advantage of reestablishing uniformity by prescribing to the Army a more regulated system. It also contains an updated (4)pp. of musical scores of the bugle sounds. These changes would combine Dundas' work along with additional formations. These improvements would be followed by all in the Army. A very clean bright copy without foxing, a bit of off-setting to edges of title page from binder's glue or the leather turn-ins. Bound in full contemporary diced calf, rebacked with original spine laid down retaining original endpapers, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, upper corners of both boards is missing a small patch of leather, wear to corners, lacks ads. A very good copy.
