Description: First edition. Slight binder's flaw on page 464 else fine in a lightly rubbed, else fine dustwrapper. A rare trial issue in binding and dustwrapper which differ from the published version in several ways. The book bulks a full 1/8" thicker, is of a similar, but slightly different weave of glazed cloth, has no embossed skull on the front board, has no painted skull on the spine, and has differently spaced and type letters on the spine, has finer printed photographic reproductions throughout, as well as other minor differences. The jacket, which fits this trial issue but not other issues of the book, has slightly different typesetting, is priced $7.95 (also the price stated on Advance Review material we have seen) and the photo on the rear panel has no white border. Additionally, tipped into this copy is an unused photograph of McGovern, with both printed and handwritten proofing notations on the reverse. A rare advance issue with significant bibliographic importance.
