Description: 8vo, unpaginated, blue cloth, strong hinges at illustrated endpapers. " Franz Schubert wrote the music in 1825 to verses in 'The Lady in the Lake' by Sir Walter Scott. It was later discovered that the words of the Latin prayer, Ave Maria, could also be sung to this music and many people believe that the prayer served as Schubert's original inspiration. At the time the Disney artists were working on Fantasia, Miss Field visited the studio and saw the pictures that had been created to interpret 'Ave Maria'. She was so deeply impressed by their mystical quality that she wrote the moving and beautiful verses presented here for the first time." The Publishers. Enahnced with gilt ink, color illustrations.

Price: US$72.00 + shipping

Condition: Good

Description: First edition. Folio; [28pp]; stiff color illustrated wrapper featuring Walt Disney characters surrounding a central green field with the title; 2 staple binding; b&w and color illustrations including photographs. This is a very rare souvenir programme for Walt Disney s Fantasia which is dated to the inside front cover as 1940, the year in which this film was released, and the third animation feature length film, preceded by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Pinocchio. The front cover bears the image of Mickey Mouse dressed as The Magician with other characters surrounding the large title to the centre of this incredibly impressive cover. The back cover has a small image of a cherub with wings showing her bottom to the centre. Condition: The covers are in good condition with age toning, losses, staining, loss of top layer of paper, scuffs, tears, creases, and abrasions. please see images. Internally this rare programme is in very good overall condition with all 30 pages (unpaginated and including the endpapers) packed with a huge amount of of detail on the production of Walt Disney s third animation feature length film, Fantasia, illustrations, and candid photographs of Walt Disney at work during production. Please note inside of back cover shows water staining to bottom and that section is detached from the wrapper It is interesting to note that this film was originally released by Walt Disney Productions and in its original form ran for 2 hours and 20 minutes. This was not a commercial success, and was re-released by RKO Radio Pictures in 1941 at the reduced time of 81 minutes. This makes original memorabilia from the first release very scarce and desirable. A "must-have" for serious Disney collectors! Condition: Good. A very nice piece for its age. Graphics are great. Approx. 9 3/4" x 12 1/4". Thanks for browsing Sunnyback Books!

Condition: Very Good

Description: B&W and Color Photographs & Illustrations; Uncommon Oversized Souvenir Program for the Disney Film: Fantasia. This program book is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. This copy has some light toning to the edges of the front book cover. There is one tiny nick to the bottom front cover. The text pages are clean and bright. "Disney settled on the film's concept in 1938 as work neared completion on The Sorcerer's Apprentice, originally an elaborate Silly Symphony cartoon designed as a comeback role for Mickey Mouse, who had declined in popularity. As production costs surpassed what the short could earn, Disney decided to include it in a feature-length film of multiple segments set to classical pieces with Stokowski and Taylor as collaborators. The soundtrack was recorded using multiple audio channels and reproduced with Fantasound, a pioneering sound system developed by Disney and RCA that made Fantasia the first commercial film shown in stereo and a precursor to surround sound. Fantasia was first released as a theatrical roadshow that was held in 13 cities across the U. S. Between 1940 and 1941; the first began at the Broadway Theatre in New York City on November 13, 1940. While acclaimed by critics, it failed to make a profit owing to World War II's cutting off distribution to the European market, the film's high production costs, and the expense of building Fantasound equipment and leasing theatres for the roadshow presentations."
