Description: xvi, 295p. Contemporary paper covered boards with a cloth spine. Front board detached. Kept in a slipcase box with dark brown morocco spine. First American edition based on letters and documents gathered by Jared Sparks. With a contemporary signature of Lucy Ann Kellogg, New York on the title page.Some scattered foxing and an ink stain mark in the inner margin affecting a few leaves in the preface, but not the text. V shaped stain affecting the last twenty leaves and lower margin on the last leaf cut. A good copy kept in a professionally made and very attractive protective slip case. O. Rich vol II. p249.

Description: 8 vo. 295 pp. Publisher's brown cloth boards with paper spine label. Condition is GOOD+ ; front joint is tender with breaks at either end, holding in the middle. Covers clean with sunning to edges and spine. Corners bumped. Paper spine label quite toned with chips to upper edge. Cloth at spine head chipped at an angle, spine has a tiny vertical split that does not affect the binding. Text has some light foxing, mostly to margins, is quite readable. Red paper book shop label from Isaac Whiting, Columbus OH, on front pastedown. Book is fragile but all original. Am. Hist. RGR. Case.

Text gathered by Jared Sparks, president of Harvard at the time. Scarce. Condition is VERY GOOD ; corners and spine ends slightly bumped, mild shelf wear. Small vertical slit to cloth at rear outer joint that doesn't affect the binding. Binding tight and text bright and unmarked. Some pages have light to moderate foxing. Unusually, only a few of the pages have been cut. Letters. RGR. First edition of this collection of Franklin letters and papers gathered by Jared Sparks in the course of his historical researches. An uncommon copy in the publisher’s original cloth now Mylar protected.
