Description: With 12 full colour tipped in plates (all are present as listed). The plates are in very good plus condition.There are also several black and white plates and line drawings throughout the text. Decorated endpapers. The book is undated but was published in 1924. First Trade Edition. Stunning original blue cloth with gilt design. One corner is very slightly bumped and there is a neat, short name inscription on blank leaf. The foredge is a little spotted and there is very occasional spotting throughout. Overall this is a very good to very good plus copy of a beautiful book. Signed and numbered by the Danish-born American artist, Kay Nielsen, on the limitation page. Kay Nielsen (1886-1957) was one of the most significant illustrators during the early 20th century along with Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac. Nielsen's illustrations were influenced by oriental art, the style of Aubrey Beardsley, and the Art Nouveau movement.

Boards splayed, corners a bit bumped, board edges a bit bumped light scattered foxing on vellum, small speckle stains on lower edges. Text block edges lightly toned, occasional faint to light foxing, small mark on front free endpaper, offsetting along fore-edge of title page, occasional creasing on tissue guards. Dust jacket has moderate dampstaining along edges with some minor chipping and loss, foxing on verso, general handling wear. Still, a very nice, clean copy with beautiful illustrations.
