Description: 408 pages plus publisher advertisements (complete). A scruffy, much owned copy. Rebound by a previous owner. Four plates are missing. The covers are sturdy, secure, marked, scuffed and worn. Within, the contents are foxed throughout. They are, however, benign, clear and generous. The pages are firm, sure, generous, spirited and confident. The folded map is in good, contented condition. In all a competent, comfortable book. fk. Front free endpaper has been pasted down to the pastedown endpaper. Lacking the plate facing page 267. Plate facing page 273 detached and loose. Description: 23 cm ,xi, [i blank,] 379 pp, plates, folding map at rear, cloth over boards - very minor frays and two corners a little turned. Minor Japanese tissue repairs to inner hinges, and map - done to a very professional standard, and hardly noticeable. Have noticed minor pencil-tracing to two plates - unobtrusive. Also a couple of minor ink blots noted. VG minus to good plus. Base of title page is marked "Colonial Library," not sure if any differences to true first. Very scarce.
