Description: Number 256/300. One of a handful of copies bound with rose Natsume straw-paper-covered boards. Most of the edition was issued in green Natsume paper but when the green paper was exhausted, the last few copies of the edition were bound in pink. Black calf quarter spine with gilt title on front. Edelstein A10. First Edition limited to 300 numbered copies printed in Centaur type on Italian Pace paper with pen and ink sepia drawings by Wightman Williams. Unpaginated. Selected by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) as one of the 50 best books of the year. Calf leather is edgeworn at the extremities with concentration at the spine cap and base. Rose Natsume paper has 3 ¼¿ chips on the front cover along where the paper meets the calf quarter binding. Subtle evidence of repair made to the front cover calf leather binding near the spine cap that is visible only in raking light. Subtle evidence of bookplate removed from first and last paste downs. Copy evidences discreet blind property stamp of by Dickinson College, the original owner, on the T.p. and one of the last unpaginated pages. Accession number stamped on page following copyright. No exterior markings. Provenance making this copy available for sale is the estate of Sam Larcombe. Despite marks and blemishes, a very nice copy.
