Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece of Lamb. A charming collection of essays written by the poet and antiquarian Charles Lamb (1775-1834). These essays first began appearing in The London Magazine in 1820 until 1825. The conversational and confiding tone of the essays proved to be very popular. Lamb himself is the Elia of the collection, and his sister Mary is 'Cousin Bridget'. This is the Books of the Verulam Club edition. Undated, dated from copies held at the University of Oxford Libraries. In a half calf Bumpus binding.
