Description: Hardcover with slipcase. Black boards with gold lettering on the front. Unpaginated. Pages are made of linen and are uncut. Cloth boards clean and unmarked. Sunning at the top and on the spine. Slipcase is coming apart. Tape repairs made to the top and the bottom of the slipcase and the back is missing a few inches from the bottom of the spine. Volume is also protected by a wax paper dust jacket. Binding is square and tight. Pages are clean and unmarked. SIGNED by the poet Theodore Dreiser on the copyright page and by Robert Fawcett below the frontispiece. Overall a handsome copy.

A sharp copy of a lovely production. Theodore Dreiser was nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature in 1930; though as it turned out, that was the year that the prize was awarded to Sinclair Lewis.

Theodore Dreiser (18651945) was a famous American writer known for his novels. His stories often featured main characters who succeeded even without a strong moral code. The illustrations in this book were done by Robert Fawcett (19031967), a well-respected English artist praised for his beautiful drawings in many books and magazines.
