Description: First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 278pp. Black boards lettered in gold at the spine. Illustrated with one map. Top edge lightly spotted, and the boards a little marked in places. Leaf margins lightly tanned as is invariably the case, and with some give to the binding. A good copy with the correct first state dust wrapper (with just two quotes on the rear panel, as called for), price-clipped and very lightly toned and edgeworn. A novel drawing on Ballard's boyhood experiences in Shanghai during the Second World War. Winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.
