All plates are present and in very good condition (a couple are creased). Light brown boards with black lettering to spine and front and design in black to front are very good with a little pushing/bumping to corners, a few marks, the odd small bump/rub to edges and a little pushing/rubbing/bumping to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Pages are a bit tanned. Previous owner's gift inscription and date in pen to front end-paper. Odd small mark/minor foxing to page edges, tops and bottoms. Occasional small marks/scattered foxing to pages. No other faults. A nice copy. All books described honestly and accurately. Slight bumping ot head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Minor spotting to edges, affecting only the occasional page, particularly to first and last few leaves. Complete with frontispiece and nineteen tipped in illustrations, including the author's portrait. Very Good Indeed

The cloth bright and clean, light wear to the spine foot, uneven offsetting to the endpapers, with ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1915. Occasional foxing to some pages edges, but overall a very nicely preserved copy, clean overall, and the binding tight and square.

A fine copy in the d/w which has a 2" chip out at the top of the spine, a smaller chip at the foot and has tears but is still good. The d/w is the only indication that this is the issue done for Canada withi "Hodder & Stoughton Limited,17 Wilton Avenue, Toronto" printed in dark green at the bottom of the upper panel of the d/w. The sheets and binding are as the first U.S. edition noted by Hughey 39a. A scarce issue.
