The third novel by the Anglo-Irish novelist (1887-1985) whose second ("Boy," 1931) had been withdrawn by its publisher, charged as "obscene." Hanley was regarded highly as a writer, but never managed huge popular success. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First Edition. Red cloth bindingwith gilt titling on the spine. Clean text; 275 pages, with four pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. Initials of a previous-owner on the FFEP; some slight tanning of the page-ends; spine lightly faded with a bump at the crown. A solid copy, nonetheless. The dustwrapper, in a stunning design by Alan Odle, is unclipped. It shows some edgewear, with a few chips, and there are two cello-tape repairs across the spine. Better than Very Good, but less than Near Fine. In an archival plastic protector. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Mottling to cloth on rear cover with corresponding red bleeding and rippling to dust jacket. Dust jacket shows a light vertical fold on the front, rear and spine panels, toning to spine, as well as light edge wear. Hanley's third published novel.
