First published in 1751, this is one of the most popular and often reprinted of all 18th century poems and one of the few poems remembered of this Engish poet and scholar (1716-71). Twelfth title in the LEC's ninth series, this tight and bright copy bears colophon at rear noting limitation of 1500 copies (this #599) signed boldly in full by Parker -- whose powerful woodcuts it notes "were made by Miss Parker in that same church-yard at Stoke Poges in which the poet brooded over his elegy." Laid in is a copy of The Monthly Letter of The Limited Edition Club, New York, September 1938. This 4pp newsletter is in vgc and features the production of the book and the work of Agnes Miller Parker. All enclosed within a blue buckram covered slip case with silver lettering on spine.
