LONDON, Jack. Dutch Courage and Other Stories. [RARE 1ST EDITION WITH GILT FRONT COVER!]. The Macmillan Company, New York, 1922.

Price: US$124.88 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: We appear to be the ONLY SELLER with the First Edition that has gilt to the front cover - all others have black lettering. pp.xiii, 180 pages, a very good minus hardback, publisher's original maroon cloth binding with gold gilt lettering to the spine (dulled, but still visible) and front cover (mostly as bright as ever). We added the 'minus' to the condition partly due to the dulled lettering on the spine, but also as the bottom left hand corner of the front cover has a slight tonal change which has caused the gilt of the JACK LON to dull. It is still perfectly visible, as can be seen from our added photo.

And thus almost any collection of his adventure stories is acceptable to young readers as well as to their elders. So, in sorting over the few manuscripts still unpublished in book form, while most of them were written primarily for boys and girls, I do not hesitate to include as appropriate a tale such as "Whose Business Is to Live." Condition: Becky London's inscription on front end paper, Corners gently bumped and rubbed, spine ends gently rubbed. Corners professionally retouched, lacks two plates, slight stain to front cover, some darkening to spine else about very good lacking dust wrapper.

Jack London (1876-1916) was one of the first American authors to gain international fame and accumulate wealth from his writing.
