Moderate foxing on page edges and just a little in text ("foxing" is light tan spots caused by extended exposure to humid air). No marks or writing. Binding square and tight. Description: 1898. 227 pages. No dust jacket. Brown cloth with gilt lettering. Rough cut pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with creased corners and foxing. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Description: Illustrated by Maxfield Parrish. Very good, first American edition book in good minus dust jacket. Book would be very good plus except the frontispiece with tissue-guard is loose and the copyright page is missing. With six Maxfield Parrish illustrations in b&w, including frontispiece with tissue-guard, and blue-tinted Parrish illustrated end papers. Olive drab cloth covered boards with gilt lettering on front panel and spine. Boards are clean; gilt lettering on title and publisher on spine has been partially rubbed off. Mild scuffing one corners at head and tail of board spine; three fore-edge tips are scuffed and one is just barely rubbed through. Side edges are rough trimmed. Book is internally clean and text block is sound. The good minus dust jacket is missing the front inside flap and almost half of the upper 2 1/4" of the front jacket panel. The jacket spine and back panel are sunned, there is loss along the head of of jacket spine, lower left corner and upper right corner of the back jacket panel; numerous chips and closed tears, most of which have old tape repairs on the reverse side.
