Shepard, known for illustrating A.A. Milne's beloved stories of Winnie-the-Pooh. The original true first edition was published in 1898.These reminiscences comprise eight tales recounted through charming imageries and metaphors rooted in the Ancient Greece, featuring many characters from the Greek mythology; The adults are referred to as the 'Olympians,' and are portrayed as totally out of touch with the real concerns for young people around them.Celebrated for the writing style and for the world created by Grahame, in which the 'Olympians' have forgotten what it means to be young, and are in continuous warfare with the children. This was a theme that became very popular later on and was explored by other authors.Illustrated with twenty-eight drawings, of which ten are full page plates. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, minor soiling to the boards and spine.
