Description: First Edition. The book is bound in the publisher's yellow cloth that has light fading to the red lettering and some discoloration to the cloth. The binding is tight with NO cocking or learning with minor wear to the spine that has some repair. The pages are clean with the usual wear to the rough edges including minor chipping to the top pages of the Shasta ads. There is NO writing, marks or bookplates in the book. A very good copy that is NOT re-bound or re-cased, but bound in the original publisher's boards.

Unlike most copies, which have been repaired or rebound, this edition has avoided alterations by restorers. While other first editions may cost double or nearly triple the price, this first edition, second impression is an impressive addition to any collection at this price point and as said rare to find in such condition. First edition, second impression, with the 1 page "The Shoulder of Shasta" final ad leaf integral to the text, bound in the publisher's original red stamped yellow cloth. Mild general overall handling, head and foot of spine fine, outer hinges fine, back corners still square, inner hinges just starting, ding to the head of spine affecting the first 2 letters in Dracula, 2 short closed tears to text, small red ownership stamp to front blank endleaf and half title otherwise internally clean and bright, housed in a red morocco backed clamshell slipcase. Published by London Archibald Constable and Company, 1897.

Description: First Edition, First Printing, First Issue First Edition, First Printing, First Issue with one blank leaf at the back of the book with no advertisement, WITHOUT the ad for the Shoulder of Shasta, WITHOUT any terminal catalogue; and printed on thicker stock with uncut page edges. Early printings of Dracula come in various states. Copies with a blank final text leaf and no pages of adverts are considered the earliest as all copies. Accompanied by a very scarce autographed, signed letter by Bram Stoker laid in. The letter was both written and signed by Bram Stoker in the year of him publishing Dracula. The letter is dated 27-9-97, and signed by Bram Stocker in full signature “Bram Stoker”. The book is accompanied by a laid in single page Autograph letter Signed on writing paper of Henry Irving’s 1897 tour, (specifically from Birmingham). The letter is dated 27 September 1897, to [James C.] Dibdin, asking him for a copy of [his book] Scottish Border Life, pencil notes to verso in an unknown hand. 1 page. Signed by Bram Stoker in his rare full signature “Bram Stoker”. Stoker was manager of the Lyceum Theatre and Irving’s secretary from 1878-1898. A very good copy of this scarce, highly collectible title. Rebacked, preserving the original cloth spine which was fully present but is soiled and faded, and with a few small outer edge nicks. The boards otherwise have fading, age toning and a few spots of discoloration to the cloth covers. Original end papers present, but with the front fly leaf paper absent and with a very small 1/2″ intact tear to the top of the last 3 pages (now archivally repaired). Otherwise, all pages present and the interior of the book is remarkably clean with maybe only one or two dots of handling marks. The binding is tight and square and the reback has made the book quite sound and not fragile (and therefore even readable!). Scripted owner name to the front paste down. Description: First Edition, First Issue on thicker paper with one blank leaf at rear and no ads with the original endpapers. Presentation copy signed by the author, Bram Stoker, to Frank A. Munsey (1854-1925), the great American newspaper and magazine publisher. Inscribed: ÒFrank A. Munsey from Bram Stoker, 22.6.97.Ó Undoubtedly, Stoker presented the book to Munsey in an unsuccessful hope that Munsey would serialize Dracula in one of his magazines. MunseyÕs pulp magazines Argosy, Munsey's Magazine, All-Story Magazine all had distinguished records of printing fantasy fiction. This book is beautifully bound in a modern full black morocco leather binding with gilt-stamped red labels, raised bands, and tooling. With gilt inner dentelles with terrific blood red marbled endpapers. Enclosed in a matching morocco and cloth clamshell box.
