Hawthorne, Nathaniel (Julian Hawthorne). Doctor Grimshawe's Secret. James R. Osgood and Company, 1883.

Price: US$40.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: An interesting printing of the first edition of this posthumously published Nathaniel Hawthorne work. This is a 5" by 8" brown cloth volume bearing the James R. Osgood imprint -- a departure from the more common Osgood design of green, decorated cover. This design matches the format of Houghton Mifflin collection of Hawthorne works published in the same period. Printer's credit is University Press, John Wilson and Sons, Cambridge. The book includes introductory notes by Hawthorne's son Julian and a facsimile reproduction of four manuscript pages. 368 pages, brown cloth with a leather title band on the spine. Rubbing on the title band including a spot entirely rubbed out -- otherwise a Very Good copy.
