Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Light tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean.

An early printing of the fourth book in the Doctor Dolittle series, first published in 1925.

Lovely tissue protected color frontis showing a pig "seated between a Marchioness and the conductor of a symphony orchestra". Many full page b/w line drawings (75 in all). Blue decorative cloth with charming paste-down on cover (same illus as frontis). Book is very clean & tight with wonderful colored "canary" endpapers. DJ is facsimile of original stunning Jonathan Cape (UK) dustjacket. A wonderful addition to volume most often found sans DJ. The Doctor buys a canary, who has a marvelous voice. He then creates a "bird's opera" and the adventures begin! A terrific volume! This book was privately owned & a child has created small, neat library pocket which was attached to rear inside cover. Actually quite charming.
