Description: Short octavo in very good condition. Light red cloth with a pasted on cover illustration of Dolittle at a table with some of his animals. A couple of scuffs on the cover and a BCE black dot on the rear cover. The dust jacket matches the cover illustration. It is in fair to good condition, with tape repair and reinforcement at the corners and spine ends. The jacket's surface is rippled and it is clipped at the bottom of the front flap, wher it also states 50th edition. This is clearly a BCE, but still a nice copy of a relatively hard to come by children's classic. xvi, 172 pp. Children's, Fiction, Classic, BCE, Animals. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall

The book comes with its original, un-clipped dust jacket (with the original $3.00 intact on the front flap). Condition: Clean front cover; the top-right corner of the spine and bottom-right corner of the back cover each have a very light stain; sharp corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The pages are clean with no stains or foxing; name written in pencil on the front end paper.no other writing found. The outer edge of pages 241-246 are crimped and have a 1/2" tear. Overall the book is in very good condition. The dust jacket is un-clipped (with the original $3.00 price intact on the front flap); small tears along the perimeter with notably larger tears at the top and bottom of the spine; soiling and a light stain on the back cover.

Description: Fine unread condition red cloth boards with a 5 inch by 3 inch fine condition front cover pastedown, black front cover and spine lettering, and black front cover illustrations contained in a very good condition price-clipped illustrated dust jacket. Includes Author Dedication; Introduction to the Tenth Printing by Hugh Walpole; List of Illustrations. Illustrated with black-and-white drawings and a black-and-white illustrated frontispiece. The blank first free front endpaper contains a neatly scripted somewhat famous former owner name and address. All other pages are in fine unmarked condition and the spine is exceedingly tight and square (see photos). The copyright pages states: "Fifty-Fourth Printing." The lower edge of the inner front jacket flap also states "Fifty-fourth Printing." "Doctor Dolittle was a little, lovable, old doctor who had so many animal pets all over his house and garden that his patients finally would not come to see him any more, and he became poorer and poorer (the way some good doctors do). But as he grew poorer he grew busier for he became the animals' own doctor and his fame spread far and wide among them. At last came a call from the monkeys in Africa, suffering from an epidemic, and the good Doctor set sail at once. The adventures of his marvelous journey across the ocean through the high kingdom of the jollijinki and back again by way of the Canaries, make a story with chuckles of sheer joy in every line. Best of all, this copy bears choice autograph addition: Tipped to inner flyleaf is a fine, heavy stock 5" X 3" card signed large and bold in blue ballpoint by RICHARD FLEISCHER, who dates it 8 December 1971 at upper right. The 1967 comedy musical film "Dr. Dolittle" starring Rex Harrison was a mashup of several Dolittle titles, and Fleischer (1916-2006), one of the last of the "Golden Age of Hollywood" directors, is often remembered for directing this title, along with as string of other notable films. A most unusual copy.
