Description: Frontis and 54 plates (plus one at k7) all present and in good shape. Both volumes have been professionally re-backed so are solid with new endpapers and the original endpapers retained. Minor loss at top of spines and some inconspicuous restoration to the leather at the corners and edges. Internally armorial bookplates on fixed end papers and otherwise the text and plates are clean. Old vertical creasing to last leaf of text, direction to binders leaf and the advert leaf at end. No frontis called for in this volume and instead there is a publisher's advert leaf preceding the title page. As with the first volume plates and text all in good order. Contents age toned and occasionally spotted nonetheless still in very good shape. Note: the endpaper shows pencil notes, a the former owner signature and bookplates of Eric Gerald Stanley. Complete with 54 folding engraved plates, which are slightly darkened but essentially sound save some edge wear and two or three repaired tears. Withal a very scarce work in satisfactory condition offered for sale at reasonable price.
