POUND, Ezra (translator).. Dialogues of Fontenelle.. The Egoist, London, 1917.

Price: US$400.00 + shipping

Description: 54 pp. Small 8vo, publisher's gold wrappers printed in black, in custom folding box. First edition; one of 500 copies. Gallup A14. A very good copy; the wrappers have been backed at the spine with Japanese tissue; one chip to the front panel reinforced on verso with tissue, as is a dog-eared corner at the back panel; a few very light stains to the front wrapper. The wrappers are about 1/4" shorter than the text pages; we cannot tell whether this shortage is the result of trimming during restoration.

Pound, Ezra (translator). Dialogues of Fontenelle; Translated by Ezra Pound. The Egoist Ltd., London, 1917.

Price: US$400.00 + shipping

Description: Small 8vo, 54pp; original yellow wrappers, bound in pale blue glazed cloth stamped in gilt on the spine. One of 500 copies in the edition, an unknown number of unsold copies being used for a reissue in 1939. This copy belonged to the poet Babette Deutsch, whose 1917 ownership signature in on the first leaf. In 1917, Deutsch graduated from Barnard and embarked on her long career as a poet, critic, editor, teacher, and translator. She was associated with the tradition of Imagism, upon which, of course, Pound himself had placed an indelible mark. A nice association copy of an elusive Pound title. Gallup A14. Slight soil and a very short tear to front wrapper; few minor wrinkles; very good.
