Description: Fisher was an American author best known for his pulp stories, novels and screenplays. He is one of the few pulp authors to go on to enjoy success as both an author in "slick" magazines, such as the Saturday Evening Post, and as an in-demand writer in Hollywood. He spent four years in the NAvy between 1928-1932, during which time he wrote for U. S. Navy and Our Navy. Destination Tokyo was made into a movie in 1943 staring Cary Grant and John Garfield. Produced during the height of World War II, the film was used as propaganda to boost morale back home and to entice young men to join the submariner service of the U.S. Navy. The book is relatively scarce. The book itself is VG with a sunned spine and . The DJ is still bright, with small tears to the edges. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 226 pages

FISHER, Steve. Destination Tokyo. D. Appleton-Century, New York, 1943.

Price: US$1000.00 + shipping

Condition: Near Fine

Description: First edition. Owner name, and a touch of soiling on the boards, a near fine copy in a not quite very good dustwrapper with sunning at the spine, slight loss, a small stain at the crown, and some other small chips and tears. Second WWII novel by the author of the hard-boiled classic *I Wake Up Screaming*. A wartime book that apparently got little distribution. Basis for the excellent 1944 Delmer Daves-directed film featuring Cary Grant, John Garfield, and Alan Hale. Considered one of the best, and most action-filled WWII films, it remains a classic war drama to this day.
