Description: Die Künstler-Edition Derrière le miroir (DLM) erschien zwischen 1946 und 1982 mit dem erklärten Ziel, originalgrafische Arbeiten bekannter Künstler dem breiten Publikum zugänglich zu machen. Das Herausgeber-Ehepaar Marguerite und Aimé Maeght ließ namhafte Künstler wie Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso u.v.a. eigens für die jeweilige Ausgabe Originalgrafiken anfertigen. Eight original single-page colored lithographs and three original double-page colored lithographs, as called for, by Bazaine, pulled by l'Imprimerie d'Arte, Adrien Maeght. Additional black & white images. An impressively clean publication, the wrappers being only lightly soiled and rubbed. Rated in Very Good to Very Good Minus condition. Jean René Bazaine [1904 - 2001] was a French painter, designer of stained glass windows and writer. He was the great great grandson of the English Court portraitist Sir George Hayter. Bazaine was to develop into a significant Modern School of Paris painter who ultimately turned to abstract art. In 1949/1950, Bazaine had his first major one man show at the Galerie Maeght, who remained his art dealer thenceforth.

Description: Complete N°198 of Derriere le Miroir, all 3 lithographs complete. With a cover lithograph that is strikingly done by Chagall himself, this is a rare chance to own some original works by a master of modern art. Derriere le Miroir was the epochal publication of Amié Maeght, whose stewardship of the magazine did so much to shape the tastes and destiny of the modernist movement. Rear cover exhibits tearing, while there is slight scuffing to corners of front lithograph. Interior is crisp and gorgeous, with the colour having lost none of its vividity in the years between its production and now. This is one of the more collectible editions of DLM, being far scarcer than later Chagall editions.
