Description: A first edition of this study into Oriental art, in a smart leather binding. Featuring six hundred and seventy-three illustrations, the author goes into significant detail, approaching the subject via the individual creatures commonly depicted in Oriental art. As such the book, while exhaustive, is easy to navigate and accesible despite its size. Ball writes authoritatively on each animal and there usage within Oriental art, discussing history, myth and overall significance. Features library mark to pastdown and several other library stamps and incriptions. In half-calf binding with cloth covered boards and gilt detailing. Externally quite smart, with some markings to boards and wear to extremities. Internally, the pages are firmly bound and are generally bright and clean, aside from some foxing to endpages. Very Good
