The programme uses the famous Joseph Hirsch image of a slope-backed Willy Loman with his sample cases on the front cover but set against an orange background, and with 'Phoenix Theatre' at the bottom of the page. The programme is eight page long and includes a full cast-list, noting that the original production was by arrangement with, among others, 'The Arts Council of Great Britain'. Performances began at 7.15 with matinees at 2.30. There are further details about scenery and costume design as well as 'Nylons and Stockings' - presumably a significant expense in late 1940s austerity Britain. The programme is in near FINE condition with the original '6d' paper label still on the front and back of the wrapper. The book is VERY GOOD in a GOOD Dustjacket with some wear at the top and bottom of the spine of the jacket. While not a rare book -- there are at any given given moment several dozen copies available, it is a difficult book to find in top condition. This does not quite fit that particular bill, but despite its stated flaws, it is a handsome copy and a good value. Mild dampstain affecting lower edge, especially on rear, slight shelf wear, still an unusually nice copy in an unfaded dust jacket with a pair of small closed tears to the front, loght rubbing to the extremities, and evidence of the aforementioned dampstain to the lower rear panel. A much nicer copy than it sounds.

DOAS follows the usual conventions for Viking Press Books (with the statement "First published." on the copyright page and no later printings noted). There is only one correct dust jacket, with a $2.50 price at the top of the front flap. All the stuff about orange boards, broken type on page 11; American Book-Stratford Press on the copyright page; Miller's photo on the back flap of the jacket; and the second S in salesman touching the arm of the figure on the front panel of the jacket are distractions. ALL first printings have them. Anyone who says they have a first printing but without those elements is either wrong or lying.
