A wonderful association copy, signed by Willa Cather and inscribed "To George Stimson, who took a great deal of trouble for this book and, I like to think, for me." Stimson was the production manager at Alfred A. Knopf. Bound in publisher's original brown cloth stamped in darker brown, lacking the dust jacket. Near Fine with light wear to corners and spine ends and pages toned, front hinge is just slightly tender. A lovely copy of a story that tells of the attempts of a Catholic bishop and and priest to establish a diocese in New Mexico Territory.
