Description: 624 pages (complete). In French throughout. A very RARE copy of this FIRST EDITION of "Les Enfants du Capitaine Grant". A much worn and owned copy that has languished in storage. It is yet handsome and thrilling. Leather spine. Five ridges; six panels. The boards are much worn all about. They are also scuffed and marked. They are sturdy and resolute. The spines is fit and sure. The covers are gruffly agreeable. Within, the frontis and end papers are moiré. The papertrims are edged in gilt; this gleams benignly. The moiré has marks from handling and storage. The frontispiece (for this edition) has wear but is secure. Throughout, the pages have wear and foxing. They are nonetheless clear, benevolent, most competent and confident. The final pages are marked from storage (583 - fin). Despite all the marks and aging, this is a most agreeable and pleasurable book. The illustrations are attractive and moody. Deux volumes in-quarto du Diable à Paris divisé en quatre parties de respectivement, 228, 196, 196, et 194 pages. A chaque partie une caricature du Diable en faux titre et en frontispice en regard de la page de titre. Une caricature de démon figure aussi sur cette page. En tout plus de mille cinq cent dessins égrenés au fil des pages, la plupart légendés, beaucoup en hors texte. Une table des matières à la fin de chaque partie recense les textes et les vignettes. Vignettes in-texte et vignettes hors-texte sont séparées. Les plus grands écrivains, journalistes et illustrateurs de l'époque ont contribué à cet ouvrage.
