Very slight cracking/chipping to head/foot of spine on front hinges. Some minor scuffing. Tight binding. Prev. owners bookplate on fep. Description: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Period red half leather and marble boards. Text in two columns, frontis, vignette title page and 15 inserted plates by Halbot K. Browne. Tight, front hinge cracking, text clean, plates tanned as always, spine a little worn with small chips. An attractive copy. This is a variant on the better known Third American edition with the same imprint which has 36 plates.

Binding is firm and leather is stable with moderate wear to the edges; pages dusty with age toning and light to moderate foxing/soiling. Height measures 9.25-inches. Double column text. Illustrated by Browne. Volumes include: 1. Dombey and Son dated 1848, 320 pages with 2 full-page plates in front, title page engraving + 6 full-page plates in text. 2. American Notes dated 1842, 92 pages + 4 page Harper & Brothers book catalog dated November 2, 1842. 3. Cricket on the Hearth dated 1846, 32 pages. These American editions are generally less common than their British counterparts and rarely found bound in one volume.
