Lacks the 2 folding maps. Minor spotting to end pages. This is the first printing of Lawrence's undergraduate history thesis of 1910. In this work, Lawrence argues that the Crusaders, after seeing the fortifications built in the Middle East, went back to Europe to build their own battlements along the same lines. Numerous castle plans and photos. The second volume includes an introduction by Lawrence's mother and reprints his letters to her.
