GIBSON, William.. Count Zero.. London: Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1986, 1986.

Price: US$962.07 + shipping

Description: First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author on the title page, "WM. Gibson [in red] To Lisa Tuttle, friend and countrywoman! [in blue]". This is an excellent science fiction association copy: Tuttle is a prolific writer and editor, and the first and only author to refuse a Nebula award. Over her career, Tuttle has written dozens of well-received science fiction and non-fiction titles, including a Hugo Award-winning novella, The Storms of Windhaven, in collaboration with her first husband, George R. R. Martin. In 1982, her short story "The Bone Flute" was awarded the Nebula Award for Best Short Story: she refused the award on principle, after objecting to a fellow nominee's circulation of their story to SWFA members as "campaigning". The subsequent backlash prompted Tuttle to abandon writing for a decade and cease writing science fiction entirely. Count Zero is the second volume in Gibson's cyberpunk Sprawl trilogy; it was nominated for the Locus & British Science Fiction Awards in 1986, and Hugo and Nebula awards in 1987. Octavo. Original blue boards, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket. Head of spine and lower corners lightly bumped, top edge foxed; head of spine panel slightly creased, faint toning to flaps, unclipped. A near-fine copy in like jacket.
